Introduction

The curriculum of the postgraduate studies in Manufacturing Systems Engineering enhances the knowledge and skills of the participants in many areas. Some of the specific objectives of the course are;

  • To provide the knowledge and skills required in automating and controlling the functions of the manufacturing processes.

  • To provide a sound knowledge of the advanced aspects of manufacturing processes and to introduce recent advances in manufacturing technology with respect to process, machinery, materials and tooling.

  • To provide the understanding of complete product development process and impart the knowledge required for developing successful product.

  • To improve the students knowledge and skills of computer-aided draughting and design, and operation & programming of computer controlled manufacturing systems.

  • To provide general management background needed by the manufacturing executives for effectively participating in the total business environment of a firm.

  • To enhance the understanding of the impact of human capabilities and limitations on the design and development of products and equipment.

  • To develop the skill of handling challenging design/research projects.

Eligibility Requirements

  • The Degree of Bachelor of the Science of Engineering honours of the University of Moratuwa specializing in Mechanical/Chemical and Process/Electrical/ Electronic and Telecommunication/Materials Science and Engineering/Textile and Apparel Engineering/Transport Management and Logistics Engineering, OR

  • Any other Bachelors Engineering honours degree of at least four years duration, from a recognised University, in a field of specialisation relevant to manufacturing as may be approved by the Senate, OR

  • Any other Bachelors Engineering degree of at least three years duration from a recognized university in a field of specialisation relevant to manufacturing as may be approved by the Senate with a minimum of one year of appropriate experience obtained after the degree, OR

  • Any other Bachelor of Engineering Technology degree of at least four years duration, from a recognised University, in a field of specialisation relevant to manufacturing as may be approved by the Senate, OR

  • Any recognized category of membership of a recognized Professional Institute, in a field relevant to manufacturing, obtained through an academic route as may be approved by the Senate with a minimum of one year of relevant experience obtained after the membership.

PROGRAMME OF STUDIES

1. Master of Science in Manufacturing Systems Engineering (MSc):

  • Duration: Two years (part-time)
  • SLQF Level: 10
  • Credits: 60 (40 credits of taught courses / 20 credits of research project)

2. Master in Manufacturing Systems Engineering (M):

  • Duration: Two years (part-time)
  • SLQF Level: 9
  • Credits: 30 (25 credits of taught courses / 5 credits of project)

3. Postgraduate Diploma in Manufacturing Systems Engineering (PG Dip.):

  • Duration: One year (part-time)
  • SLQF Level: 8
  • Credits: 25 (Fall back option)

All academic work will normally be conducted on Saturdays and Sundays.

COURSE FEES and APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Application Fee : Rs. 2,000/= per application(payable with application)
Registration Fee : Rs. 2,000/= per year (payable at registration)
Examination Fee : Rs. 500/= per year (payable at registration)
Tuition Fee :
  • MSc (SLQF 10) : Rs. 500,000/= (can be paid in two instalments of Rs. 250,000/= each)
  • Master (SLQF 9) : Rs. 400,000/= (can be paid in two instalments of Rs. 200,000/= each)
  • Upgrade from Master (SLQF 9) to MSc (SLQF 10): Rs. 200,000 (payable at the end of second semester)
  • Rs. 50,000/= for an additional year beyond 2 years up to the maximum duration of the programme(4 years)
Library fees and Deposit :
  • Rs. 2,000/= non-refundable library fee
  • Rs. 2,500/= deposit per item, up to 6 items (optional and refundable)

Application fee of Rs. 2,000 should be paid to university account BOC: 70993353 (Katubedda Campus Branch) with the reference “MSE-25” and attach a proof of payment (scanned deposit or transfer slip) with the application.
