Mr. Jean-Marin Schuh, Ambassador of France to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, conferred the honorary distinction of Order of the Academic Palms award to Prof. Rahula Attalage, Former Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Senior Professor at the University of Moratuwa. The award ceremony was held at the Residence of France ambassador, on 6th June 2018, with the participation of Mrs. Hélène Conway-Mouret, member of the French Senate, on an official tour to Sri Lanka.
The Order of the Academic Palms award was incepted by Napoleon the First in 1808 to honour excellent members of the educational community, who had either significantly served the education system of France, or had actively contributed to the promotion of French culture and language worldwide.
