Mr Sasiranga De Silva, an academic staff member of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, has recently been featured in the US Foreign Policy magazine podcast “Tinkering with Tuk Tuks”. During the podcast, Mr Sasiranga De Silva discussed his success story of developing an electric conversion kit for conventional tuk-tuks in Sri Lanka. In 2015, Mr De Silva initiated this project to convert the conventional tuk-tuks to electrically driven vehicles, highlighting its environmental benefits. The project has already been recognized in both local and global platforms gathering attention across multiple policymakers.
