Winners of the 3-Minute Thesis (3MT) Challenge of Civil Engineering Research Symposium 2021 announced

Civil Engineering Research Symposium is an annual symposium organised by the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Moratuwa to showcase the latest research activities undertaken by undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Department. A 3-Minute Thesis (3MT) Challenge was featured for the first time in history of the Civil Engineering Research Symposium to demonstrate the latest research achievements of the postgraduate students in a creative manner.

Civil Engineering Research Symposium 2021

Civil Engineering Research Symposium 2021 showcases the latest research activities undertaken by undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Moratuwa. The book of abstracts published with the symposium comprises the findings of the latest Civil Engineering undergraduate research projects, conducted under broad themes of Structural, Geotechnical, Hydraulic, Construction, Environmental and Transportation Engineering. A selected set of abstracts will be presented during the morning session, held fully online.

"Engineer Chandrasena Award for Best Paper – 2021” at the IESL Young Members’ Technical Conference 2021

“Mix Design and Pavement Analysis of Thin Surfaced Asphalt Pavements for Low-Volume Roads”, a final year individual research project of Jesudasan Arjoon Moses under the supervision of Prof. W. K. Mampearachchi won the “Engineer Chandrasena Award for Best Paper – 2021” at the IESL Young Members’ Technical Conference 2021, held virtually on the 9th of October 2021. It was an Island-wide call for research papers from the undergraduates and young engineers below the age of 35, in which 43 research papers were selected over 145 submissions.

Director of ERU at the University of Moratuwa

Dr. H. R Pasidu, Senior Lecturer of Department of Civil Engineering at University of Moratuwa has been appointed as the Director of Engineering Research Unit (ERU) of Faculty of Engineering. ERU was set up in the late 80s with a view to disseminate the knowledge gained through research carried out at the Faculty of Engineering to the Scientific Community at large, and to promote research among Faculty members and Graduate Students. ERU organises the flagship International Multidisciplinary Engineering Research Conference, MERCon, which has been held over seven times with the presence of eminent academics from all over the world.

Department of Civil Engineering (DoCE) is pleased to announce that as of the 15th June 2021, Senior Professor (Mrs.) Chintha Jayasinghe is now the Head of the Department of Civil Engineering. Professor (Mrs.) Jayasinghe is an accomplished academic with an international reputation as a leading Sri Lankan scholar whose research provides considerable insight into the area of construction management, with a specific focus on Sustainable design & Green Building, Earthen construction and indoor air quality.

Professor Priyan Dias is among the Stanford-Elsevier list of the world’s top 2% of scientists

An article published in PLOS Biology on 08-10-2020 with authors from Stanford University and Elsevier BV is linked to a publicly available database of 100,000 top-ranked scientists, together with the top 2% of scientists for every subfield. Scientists are classified into 22 scientific fields and 176 sub-fields. (Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators (plos.org)).

Professor Priyan Dias delivered the Deshabandu Vidya Jyothi Eng (Dr) ANS Kulasinghe Memorial Lecture at the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka on 26 October 2020. Although his audience at the Wimalasurendra Auditorium comprised no more than 6 individuals due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, it is reported that over 150 persons attended in webinar mode.
