The Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) commemorated the 104th Birth Anniversary of Eng. (Dr.) A. N. S. Kulasinghe on 26th October 2023. Eng. (Dr.) Kulasinghe is known not only for his contribution to engineering research and development but also for his lifetime commitment towards an unparalleled approach to engineering application for national development.
The commemoration was begun by the lighting of the traditional Oil Lamp and garlanding of the portrait of the late engineer by IESL President, Eng. (Dr.) Kamal Laksiri. The inspiring memorial lecture on "Selection of Building Materials Based on the Life Cycle Approach" was delivered by Senior Professor (Mrs.) Chintha Jayasinghe, the Head of the Civil Engineering Department, University of Moratuwa. This lecture explored the impacts of traditional building materials and suggested alternatives, emphasizing strategies to encourage the adoption of energy-efficient materials which is an essential part of the sustainable design process.
The gathering was attended by family members of the late Eng. (Dr.) Kulasinghe and the Past presidents of the institution, Council members, members of the institution and the general public.
