Workshop by two renowned Professors from the University of Melbourne and California State University

A workshop on opportunities for higher studies was organized for the Research students of the Department of Civil Engineering on 4th January at the department premises. This workshop was conducted by two world-renowned Academics, Prof. Priyan Mendis from the University of Melbourne, Australia, and Prof. Rupa Purasinghefrom California State University, Los Angeles.

Highway Engineering Society at the Department of Civil Engineering organized another “Chat with an Engineer” event

“Chat with an Engineer – Session 3” organized by the Highway Engineering Society (HES) – Student Chapter, University of Moratuwa was successfully held on 18th December 2021 via Zoom platform with the participation of civil engineering undergraduates around the country. This was the 3rd consecutive session organized by the HES – Student Chapter, University of Moratuwa, focusing on providing an opportunity for enthusiastic civil engineering undergraduates to acquire guidance from industry experts to broaden their knowledge on highway engineering.

Skill Up with CES Webinar 5 - by Dr. Rajeev Ruparathna from the University of Windsor, Canada

The Civil Engineering Society (CES) of University of Moratuwa initiated the "Skill up with CES" webinar series with the aim of providing opportunities for the students to meet the expert and renowned professionals from all around the world. Within two months from the initiation, five successful webinars were carried out under several major topics.

SKILL-UP WITH CES – Webinar 4 - by Director RDC (Pvt) Ltd

An session on“Buildability and Effective Project Management Techniques for Highrise Building Construction” was conducted as the 4th webinar under the program “SKILL-UP WITH CES- Webinar Series” on 28th November, 2021 from 6.00 p.m. onwards via Zoom platform. The facilitator of this session was Eng. Samitha Jayakody, who is a Charted Engineer and currently Director of, RDC (Pvt) Ltd and a Visiting Lecturer at University of Moratuwa.

Huge Win at the Innovation Grand Challenge Organized by the Asian Preparedness Partnership funded by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

A team led by Dr. Chandana Siriwardana, Department of Civil Engineering, University of Moratuwa, has won in an international competition organized by Asian Preparedness Partnership (APP) funded by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The team was among the six equal winners out of 51 candidates representing six countries competed for the "Social Innovation Grand Challenge" organized by APP

SKILL-UP WITH CES – Webinar 2

Civil Engineering Society of University of Moratuwa initiated the “SKILL-UP WITH CES-Webinar Series” for the undergraduates to get expert advice from renowned professionals from around the world. Felicitation Ceremony of Senior Professor Priyan Dias

A felicitation ceremony of Senior Professor Priyan Dias was held on 30th September 2021, the day of his retirement as a hybrid event launched from the boardroom of Faculty of Graduate Studies at University of Moratuwa. The event was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering to celebrate his 40+ years of long and distinguished service rendered to the department and the university. The highlight of the event was the farewell lecture by Senior Professor Dias aptly titled “On Connectivity” where he traced the linkages of the many aspects of his research. These included truss and road connectivity; system dynamics for concrete durability; neural networks for pattern recognition; structuring and interactions among various types of connected entities (e.g. in vulnerability, sustainability and degradation); socio-technical linkages (e.g. in resilience); and analogical transposition.

iNFLEXION 2021 & CES Official Web Launch

With the CES Official Website launch on 22nd of November, 2021, a golden memory was written down on the diaries of the Civil Engineering Students at the Department. On this remarkable day, Civil Engineering Society of University of Moratuwa proudly initiated an official website to showcase talents of the students embracing the tides of new technology. All the staff members, graduates and undergraduates of Civil engineering Department witnessed that blazing moment through a session conducted via Zoom.

Civil Engineering Research Symposium 2021 successfully held at the Department of Civil Engineering

Civil Engineering Research Symposium 2021 was successfully held at the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Moratuwa on the 17th November 2021 with the participation of eminent academics, students and the industry from Sri Lanka and around the world. This is an annual symposium organised by the Department of Civil Engineering to showcase the latest research activities undertaken by undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Department.
