Dr. K. H. S. M. Sampath from the Department of Civil Engineering embarked on a visit to the Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology (SIIT), Thailand, spanning from 4th September to 9th October 2023 as a follow-up activity of the MoU signed between SIIT and UoM. During this academic visit, Dr. Sampath continued the delivery of the module "CES391: Special Topics in Civil Engineering I" for undergraduate students at SIIT, in which the first part was delivered by Prof. Nalin De Silva during his visit in August 2023.
In addition, Dr. Sampath delivered a special research seminar titled "Unlocking Earth's Secrets: Carbon Storage in Underground Geo-Reservoirs and Alternative Geo-Energy Extraction" to engage undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as the academic staff at SIIT. This informative session delved into innovative approaches to understanding carbon storage in underground geo-reservoirs and exploring alternative methods for geo-energy extraction.
Dr. Sampath also actively pursued opportunities for collaborative research degree programs between SIIT and UoM, exploring potential avenues for joint research grants in tandem with research groups from both institutions. SIIT expressed keen interest in extending collaboration with UoM staff for joint research supervision, co-supervision, external evaluation of postgraduate degrees, split postgraduate programs, undergraduate student exchange programs, and joint applications for research grants as a further continuation of ongoing and planned activities under the MoU.
