The Survey Camp for the 19-Batch, conducted by the Department of Civil Engineering, was successfully carried out in two phases with the support of the both academic and non-academic staff of the department. Phase 1 was conducted at the department premises from 28th November to 01st December, 2023. This phase allowed each student ample time to review fundamental surveying principles, practice equipment usage, and enhance proficiency in relevant computer software. Additionally, demonstration sessions were organized to showcase contemporary surveying techniques, including laser scanning, drone surveying, and the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), in collaboration with industry experts.
Building upon the knowledge acquired during Phase 1, Phase 2 was commenced on 04th December, 2023, at the Kothmale International Training Institute of Irrigation and Water Management (KITI-IWM). Over the course of the six days in Phase 2, students actively participated in various group projects designed to cultivate the creation of realistic, innovative, and conceptually robust design concepts. These projects encompassed both project-related considerations and surveying aspects.
Adding an extra layer of practical knowledge, a special field visit was organised for the students to explore the Kotmale Dam. This visit offered a unique opportunity to witness the engineering intricacies associated with this hydroelectric and irrigation dam, enriching their understanding of real-world applications.
The success of the 19-Batch Survey Camp underscores its pivotal role in equipping students with a well-rounded skill set, blending traditional surveying practices with state-of-the-art technologies. The hands-on experience gained during the camp not only enhances their academic foundation but also prepares them for the dynamic challenges of the professional surveying landscape.
