The field of geotechnical engineering is fundamental to the safe and sustainable development of infrastructure, requiring an in-depth understanding of soil behaviour, earth-structure interaction, and stability. As the demands on the construction of infrastructure projects evolve, geotechnical engineers must stay up-to-date with advances in material technology, the design and construction of geotechnical structures, and advanced computational methods to meet industry challenges effectively.
The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Moratuwa addresses this need by offering part-time postgraduate programmes in Geotechnical Engineering, designed specifically for practising engineers. This program provides a platform for professionals to enhance their knowledge and skills while continuing their careers.
The Geotechnical Engineering Division, renowned for its expertise in various areas of modern geotechnical design, conducts the course. Our department maintains strong ties with industry, engaging in consultancy and contract research across fields such as soil-structure interaction, foundation engineering, rock engineering, ground improvement techniques, slope stability, and deep excavations. These industry partnerships ensure that the program curriculum reflects the latest trends and practical challenges in geotechnical engineering, preparing graduates to excel in their careers.
These postgraduate programs offer not only theoretical foundations but also practical insights, equipping engineers with the knowledge to design and implement geotechnical solutions that are both safe and efficient in real-world conditions.
