Civil Engineering Society (CES) Launches 'Skill Up with CES-2023' Lecture Series to Empower Aspiring Civil Engineers

The "Skill Up with CES" lecture series is a transformative initiative aimed at providing valuable insights and knowledge to aspiring civil engineers, organized by the Civil Engineering Society (CES) of the University of Moratuwa. This series offers a platform for undergraduates to gain a deeper understanding of current issues, emerging technologies, engineering trends, and research work in the field of civil engineering. The goal is to assist students in shaping their future career paths within the industry.

The series began with "Session 01: A Glimpse into Higher Education," which featured five PhD candidates from prestigious institutions worldwide and drew over 150 participants eager to explore higher education opportunities and insights. "Session 02: Crafting a Path to Success" explored higher educational insights and career planning with a keynote address by Dr. Amila Jayasinghe from the University of Cambridge. The third session, entitled "The World of Remote Working in Civil Engineering," was planned to address various topics, including creating an online profile, searching for and bidding on projects, maintaining long-term client relationships, and acquiring essential skills. This event had keynote speakers Eng. Chamath Gunasekara, Managing Director at HCG Engineering, and Eng. Rajitha Fonseka, a Senior Design Engineer. The final session of the series, “Session 04: Navigating the Future of the Construction Industry” explored opportunities and the evolving landscape of the construction industry. Eng. Thilak Jayathunga, Executive Director of Designs, Compliance, and R&D at the International Construction Consortium (ICC), was the keynote speaker. The lecture series garnered a positive reception from eager and engaged students.
