Experience Sri Lanka’s Graphite Legacy at Bogala Mine
This visit offers a unique opportunity to witness first-hand the country’s historic and world-class graphite mining industry, combining technical insights with an unforgettable underground experience as part of ISERME 2025.
During the visit, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the mining operations—from geological background and mining techniques to graphite processing. The guided tour will provide both academic value and a memorable professional experience.

Departure: 7:00 – 7:30 AM (from participant accommodations in Colombo)
🕒 Itinerary
- 07:00 – 07:30 AM | Pick-up from accommodation (please have breakfast beforehand).
- 09:45 AM | Arrival at Bogala Graphite Mine & introductory briefing on the history and geology of the mine.
- 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM | Guided underground mine visit, followed by tea at the underground restaurant.
- 12:30 – 01:30 PM | Visit to the graphite processing facility.
- Refreshing Break | Participants will have the opportunity to refresh and take a bath.
- 02:30 – 04:00 PM | Late Lunch (provided by Bogala Mines).
- 04:00 – 04:30 PM | Wrap-up and departure from Bogala.
- ~06:30 PM | Arrival in Colombo (subject to schedule variations).
