WESTERN PROVINCE TRANSPORT DEMAND MODEL (WPTDM)

Western Province Transport Demand Model (WPTDM) is a robust transport demand model for the Western Province of Sri Lanka built by the transport modelling team at the Transportation Engineering Division, Department of Civil Engineering, University of Moratuwa. It is a macroscopic modelling tool built on CUBE Voyage software, a widely used commercial transport modelling software. The WPTDM replaces the JICA STRADA model widely known as ‘CoMTrans model’ or ‘Megapolis Model’ which have been used in many transport modelling exercises such as transport masterplan development, feasibility studies of Road, Rail, Monorail and LRT projects in Sri Lanka. The WPTDM have addressed the limitations of the JICA STRADA model and enhanced the analytical capacity.

Following Features are available in the model

  • Covers entire Western Province of Sri Lanka
  • Built on CUBE Voyager
  • Base Year 2020
  • Explicitly models Peak time periods (AM, Mid Day, PM and Off Peak) A major upgrade from JICA STRADA Model
  • A complete 4-Step Model (Trip Generation, Trip Distribution, Mode Choice and Assignment)
  • Built in Mode choice component estimated based on Stated Preference Surveys carried recently
  • Explicitly models Private transport network and Public transport network for Peak time periods

Represented by 5 Private vehicle categories and 3 public transport categories including Bus, Railway and LRT.
