M-TRADA is a Cloud Based data mining platform to collect travel time data using Google map APIs. It was developed in year 2017 by Dr. Dimantha De Silva and Mr. Sakitha Kumarage (Currently a PhD Candidate at UQ, Brisbane) from the Transportation Engineering Division, Department of Civil Engineering, University of Moratuwa.

First Developed to independently monitor and check the accuracy of the speeds published by the study team of a Bus Priority Lane project, M-TRADA has now been developed in to a fully functional, verified cloud based platform.

M-Trada can collect travel times/speed data with following features.

  • Continuous Data
  • Automated and Scheduled
  • Multiple Locations at once (Any number of Segments)
  • Any time of the day
  • Anywhere in the World
  • Frequency as low as 1 min
  • Realtime Analysis
  • Accurate

Access to the M-TRADA platform is through the cloud through an individual user account. The users will be able to collect travel time data following the instructed steps of the web platform. The key features of M-TRADA (www.mtrada.com) includes GUI (Graphical User Interface) for scheduling and mapping of data, user management and short term storage of data.

M-TRADA has been used for projects by many Sri Lankan Authorities such as Road Development Authority, Sri Lanka Police, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Urban Design, Ministry of Highways, Colombo Municipal Council and multiple Consultancy work. It has also been used and tested in Japan.

Has been successfully used in Sri Lanka and Japan for

  1. Identification of Bottlenecks
  2. Before and After Analysis,
  3. Analysis of queue length variations
  4. Corridor management studies
  5. Planning route guidance and traffic diversions plans
  6. Data for long term transport planning models
  7. Development of perimeter control strategies

Available for your next Travel Time Data Collection Anywhere in the World
