Professor Udeni Nawagamuwa - Department of Civil Engineering Appointed as the 84th General President of the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science (SLAAS)

Professor Udeni Nawagamuwa, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, has been inducted as the 84th General President of the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science (SLAAS) at a ceremony held on January 7th at the Galle Face Hotel. The event was attended by distinguished guests, including Prime Minister Hon. Harini Amarasuriya, Professor Gomika Udugamasooriya, the President’s Senior Advisor on Science & Technology, as well as the outgoing General President Prof. Ramani Wijesekera, past General Presidents, SLAAS Council members, fellow scientists, and other distinguished invitees.

During the ceremony, Prof. Ruchira Kumaranatunge introduced Prof. Udeni Nawagamuwa as the 84th General President of SLAAS. In his address, Prof. Nawagamuwa introduced his theme for the year, "Empowering the Underprivileged through the Popularization of Science and Technology," emphasizing the need for equitable access to science education. With a long-standing association with SLAAS since 2007, he highlighted key initiatives aimed at bridging regional disparities in science and technology education. SLAAS, under his leadership, aims to drive impactful programs, fostering innovation and scientific literacy across Sri Lanka.
