Highway Engineering Society at the Department of Civil Engineering organized another “Chat with an Engineer” event

“Chat with an Engineer – Session 3” organized by the Highway Engineering Society (HES) – Student Chapter, University of Moratuwa was successfully held on 18th December 2021 via Zoom platform with the participation of civil engineering undergraduates around the country. This was the 3rd consecutive session organized by the HES – Student Chapter, University of Moratuwa, focusing on providing an opportunity for enthusiastic civil engineering undergraduates to acquire guidance from industry experts to broaden their knowledge on highway engineering.

Mr Sakitha Kumarage who is an alumni of the University of Moratuwa, and currently reading for his PhD at the University of Queensland, Australia joined as the resource person for the session to share his experience as a traffic engineer. He gave a presentation on “Exploring the aspects of Traffic Engineering”. Mr Sakitha Kumarage is an expert in modelling transport systems and control of large-scale traffic networks. His current research interests are in traffic flow theory and intelligent transport systems. Mr Sakitha shared his experience as a traffic engineer and showcased the novel trends of his study area. It was an enlightening and inspiring session for the Civil Engineering undergraduates.

The session went for about 2 hours with the participation of more than 100 enthusiastic undergraduates and was concluded with a Q&A session.
