“Mix Design and Pavement Analysis of Thin Surfaced Asphalt Pavements for Low-Volume Roads”, a final year individual research project of Jesudasan Arjoon Moses under the supervision of Prof. W. K. Mampearachchi won the “Engineer Chandrasena Award for Best Paper – 2021” at the IESL Young Members’ Technical Conference 2021, held virtually on the 9th of October 2021.

It was an Island-wide call for research papers from the undergraduates and young engineers below the age of 35, in which 43 research papers were selected over 145 submissions.

As the research proved that thin asphalt pavements (thickness 20mm – 25mm) are satisfactory for low-volume roads from the mechanistic analysis and revealed the asphalt mix design which has a significant cost reduction, the Road Development Authority and other road construction agencies would be able to benefit from it.

Our warmest congratulations to Mr. J. A. Moses for the dedication he had shown on the way to this achievement.
