The Geotechnical Engineering Division at the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Moratuwa, has successfully concluded a Training Program on Testing of Engineering Properties of Soil in the months of June and July 2023, with the participation of geotechnical engineers and technical officers from various institutes in Sri Lanka, including the Irrigation Department, Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation (SLLDC), University of Sri Jayawardenapura, General Sir John Kotelawala Defense University (KDU), Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL), and Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT).
Designed as a 4-day course held on weekends, the program aimed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the engineering properties of soil and their practical applications. It included a series of lectures and laboratory soil tests that equipped participants with both theoretical and practical experience in soil testing and data interpretation. These skills are essential for developing a practical understanding of soil mechanics that will be valuable in their future careers.
