February 2014 Visit by students of the Central Academy of Fine Art - Beijing.

Seven students and Prof. Wang from the Department of Architecture of the Central Academy of Fine Art, Beijing, China’s most prestigious and renowned art academy visited the Department. They were on a study tour of Sri Lanka and visited the University on Wednesday the 19th of February. They made a presentation of their work in Architectural design and students of Levels 3 and 4 made presentations of their work in return. Professor Samitha Manawadu and Dr.

February 2014 AWARDS Dr. Milinda Pathiraja receives Australian Alumni Excellence Award 2014 for Education

The Australian Trade Commission selected Dr Milinda Pathiraja Senior Lecturer of the Department of Architecture who completed his PhD in the University of Melbourne as the winner of the ‘Australian Alumni Excellence Award 2014 for Education’.  The Australian Alumni Awards, 2014 was held at the Taj Samudra Hotel, Colombo on 22nd February 2014.

Dr Milinda Pathiraja is also the recipient of  the 2011 RIBA President’s Award for Outstanding PhD Thesis for his PhD inspired by community sentiments.

January 2014 Guest lecture by Mr.Tibor Kecskes of Hungary

Mr.Tibor Kecskes architect, interior designer,Associate professor of University of Applied Sciences Budapest and Ms. Gabriella Szaszak Landscape architect   of Hungary visited Department of Architecture  on 25th January 2014.

They conducted two lectures one on landscape  architecture and the other on Interior design for the undergraduate and postgraduate students at department.

November 2013 Exhibition of works of Commonwealth Association of Architects and RIBA students’ works

Exhibit_2013, an exhibition demonstrating the works of Commonwealth Association of Architects and RIBA students’ works, was held at  University of Moratuwa. The event was inaugurated on 30th November 2013 at the Department of Architecture premises on the ground floor of Sumanadasa building, where the works were displayed for exhibition to the staff and students of the University.

November 2013 Intellectual Encounters for MSc and Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) Students

The very first batch of BLA students had the unique opportunity to participate in a programme of innovative learning conducted by Dr John Byrom, Fellow, of the University of Edinburgh and former Course Director Landscape studies, University of Edinburgh in November 2013.  A dynamic agenda was designed to give students opportunity to develop skills and activities that ranged from hands -on workshops, site studies and lecture series, to enhance the understanding of the complex issues of Landscape Architecture
