January 2014 Guest lecture by Mr.Tibor Kecskes of Hungary

Mr.Tibor Kecskes architect, interior designer,Associate professor of University of Applied Sciences Budapest and Ms. Gabriella Szaszak Landscape architect   of Hungary visited Department of Architecture  on 25th January 2014.

They conducted two lectures one on landscape  architecture and the other on Interior design for the undergraduate and postgraduate students at department.

November 2013 Exhibition of works of Commonwealth Association of Architects and RIBA students’ works

Exhibit_2013, an exhibition demonstrating the works of Commonwealth Association of Architects and RIBA students’ works, was held at  University of Moratuwa. The event was inaugurated on 30th November 2013 at the Department of Architecture premises on the ground floor of Sumanadasa building, where the works were displayed for exhibition to the staff and students of the University.

November 2013 Intellectual Encounters for MSc and Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) Students

The very first batch of BLA students had the unique opportunity to participate in a programme of innovative learning conducted by Dr John Byrom, Fellow, of the University of Edinburgh and former Course Director Landscape studies, University of Edinburgh in November 2013.  A dynamic agenda was designed to give students opportunity to develop skills and activities that ranged from hands -on workshops, site studies and lecture series, to enhance the understanding of the complex issues of Landscape Architecture 

2013 October VIVA VOCE OF THE MASTER OF URBAN DESIGN (MUD) PROGRAMME

The final examination of the MUD in the form of a Viva voce for the Comprehensive Design Project (CDP) was held on Friday Oct 18th at the Department of Architecture. The examiners were Prof. Ali Madanipour, from the University of New Castle and Prof. Koen Wandeler , University of Leuven, Belgium. Six students were examined at the Viva voce out of which four students passed the examination

2013 October INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON URBAN DESIGN :‘CITIES, PEOPLE & PLACES’– ICCPP-2013

The above conference was organised by the Department of Architecture, from October 15-16th at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute Colombo 07. The conference Chairman was Dr. Janaka Wijesundara. The welcome addresses were delivered by the Vice Chancellor of the Moratuwa, the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and the Head of the Department of Architecture. The Key note speakers were Prof. Ali Madanipour, Professor of Urban Design, University of Newcastle, UK and Mr. Julian Dobson, Urban Pollinators Ltd, UK.

2013 September SRI LANKA INSTITUTE OF ARCHITEXTS (SLIA) STUDENT JAMBOREE – 2013

The annual Student Jamboree organised by the Board of Architectural Education (BAE), Sri Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA) was held successfully at the Army Detachment Camp, Belihuloya from 06th to 09th September 2013.Approximately 100 students from the Department of Architecture of the University of Moratuwa (UOM) and the City School of Architecture, Colombo 07 (CSA) participated in this event.

August 2013 Architecture Symposium- Salt River Dialogues: Between Planning and Materials

A symposium on Architecture titled Salt River Talks: Between Planning and Materials was held on 23rd and 24th of August at Brief Gardens, Beruwala, supported by the University of Moratuwa and the University of Melbourne, Australia. The organizers of the symposium were Prof.Paolo Tombesi from the University of Melbourne and Dr. Milinda Pathiraja, Archt.Kolitha Perera and Archt. Varuna de Silva from the University of Moratuwa. The presenters were from various parts of the world who are practitioners-cum-academics.

August 2013 Visit to the Department of Architecture by Indian Students and Staff

A group of 50 students from Smt. Manoramabai Mundle College of Architecture accompanied by 3 staff members including Prof. S R Marathe and Prof. Mrs. Roopal Deshpande visited the Department on the 1st of August. They were in Sri Lanka on a study visit and took the opportunity to interact with the Architecture students and look at their studio work. A lecture on Sri Lankan architecture was delivered by Prof. Manwadu.
