We are excited to announce that Sanduni Lenadora, from B. Arch 16 Batch of our Department, was awarded the Deshamanya Dr. Roland Silva Award for the Most Outstanding Faculty of Architecture Graduand of the Year 2021 at the 43rd General Convocation 2023, an honour she received for her stellar academic performance, demonstration of leadership qualities and interpersonal skills and active participation in extracurricular activities.

The 43rd   General Convocation of the University of Moratuwa (UoM) was held on 20th   and 21st   December 2022 with all its glory and pride at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in six sessions. The Chancellor of the University, Vidya Jyothi Professor Emeritus KKYW Perera presided the Convocation Ceremony which was attended by the graduands with their parents, distinguished invitees, as well as the academic and administrative staff of the University.

Dr. D.P. Chandrasekara is appointed as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa, with effect from 5^th October 2022. Dr. Chandrasekara who is an alumni of the University of Moratuwa obtained his first degree and the MSc. from the University of Moratuwa in 1983 and 1986 respectively. He obtained his PhD from the University of Colombo in 2017.

The 93' Batch Alumni of the Department of Architecture, for the 3rd consecutive year, granted scholarships for two Level One students of the B. Arch (Hons) programme. The scholarships were awarded through application progress and the applicants were interviewed and selected by a panel compromising of the 93' batch representatives and department staff members. A monthly scholarship of Rs.5000 is awarded to each student which, will continue until the student completed his MDP project in Level Three. 

On 27.09.22, the new facility of "Centre for Cities - UoM Urban research Lab" was inaugurated at the Department of Architecture. This centre is an interdisciplinary research arm, established in the University of Moratuwa and operating since 2018 and it is a facilitator in bridging the industry and academia to develop and integrate Urban Development and management strategies for the benefit of the society throug

Prof. Indrika Rajapaksha delivered the 10th prestigious Dr. K.D.G. Saparamadu memorial oration for College of Community Dentistry of Sri Lanka in the 39th Annual sessions held on 29th January 2022 at Water’s Edge. Her talk explored “Missing links in warming climates: Built environment and well-being in Tropics”. She was presented with the orator’s medal by the chief guest Dr. Vinya Ariyaratne.

Department of Architecture students and academic staff members were able to won the Best Paper Awards in four sessions in the FARU 2021 - 14^th International Research Conference, which was held on 03^rd – 04^th December 2021 as a virtual conference organized by

L.Arct. Shameen Dharmasena, Lecturer (Probationary) of the Department of Architecture, was awarded the ‘Outstanding Green Professional of the Year Award 2021 – Honorable Mention’ at the 10^th Annual Green Building Awards Ceremony 2021 of Green Building Council of Sri Lanka, held on 18^th of December 2021 in Kandy.

Anjana Gunawardena(192121V) of current level 02 batch (19th batch) has been awarded 2nd runners up of the Football Juggling Challenge in the International Day of University Sport (IDUS) 2021 ceremony organized by Sri Lanka Universities Sports Association (SLUSA).
