The Department of Architecture successfully concluded the Second International Conference on Cities, People and Places (ICCPP-2014) and the inauguration was held on 31st October 2014 at the Foundation Institute in Colombo. The chief Guest of this event was Mr. Keith Davis, the country Director of British Council. The inauguration ceremony was concluded with a Sri Lanka cultural pageant and a conference dinner. The conference was held on Nov 1st, 2014 at the same venue.

This was held on October 30th, 2014 from 9am to 5pm at the Department of Architecture for the students of architecture and planning. The workshop was conducted by Prof. Koen Wandeler from the University of Lueven in Belgium and a special lecture was conducted by Prof. Rich Rise from Texas University of USA. Several foreign academics and foreign students from the Universities from USA, Thailand, Cambodia, and India were participated the workshop.

The Honours Degree of Bachelor of Architecture conducted by the Department of Architecture, University of Moratuwa is accredited by the following professional organizations;

• Royal Institute of British Architects
• Commonwealth Association of Architects
• Sri Lanka Institute of Architects

The five years Honours Degree of Bachelor of Architecture is exempted from the part II by the above professional organizations

Architect Narein Perera, was awarded the 2014 Inaugural 'Architecture Asia Award for Emerging Architects' as a part of the Architects Regional Council of Asia(ARCASIA) and Asian Congress of Architects (ACA) sessions in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Archt. Jahangir Khan Sherpao, President of Institute of Architects Pakistan and Archt. Abu Sayeed M. Ahmed , President of Institute of Architects Bangladesh  made a visit to the Department of Architecture on 19th February 2014.They inspected selected works of students and discussed about the future collaborations..

They were in the island for the 2014 -Annual sessions of Sri Lanka Institute of Architects.

The Department of Architecture, University of Moratuwa took part in the Architect 2014 Exhibition held at BMICH Colombo from 19th to 23rd February 2014.

A presentation titled “A career in Landscape Architecture - power to transform places” was made to the students of the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture by Landscape Architect Wendy Wright.

Seven students and Prof. Wang from the Department of Architecture of the Central Academy of Fine Art, Beijing, China’s most prestigious and renowned art academy visited the Department. They were on a study tour of Sri Lanka and visited the University on Wednesday the 19th of February. They made a presentation of their work in Architectural design and students of Levels 3 and 4 made presentations of their work in return. Professor Samitha Manawadu and Dr.

The Australian Trade Commission selected Dr Milinda Pathiraja Senior Lecturer of the Department of Architecture who completed his PhD in the University of Melbourne as the winner of the ‘Australian Alumni Excellence Award 2014 for Education’.  The Australian Alumni Awards, 2014 was held at the Taj Samudra Hotel, Colombo on 22nd February 2014.

Dr Milinda Pathiraja is also the recipient of  the 2011 RIBA President’s Award for Outstanding PhD Thesis for his PhD inspired by community sentiments.

A workshop was conducted by award winning American Architect and visual artist Tristan Al-Haddad for the students of Architecture on Wednesday 29th January 2014 at the Department.
