Prof. Anura Wijayapala promoted to Senior Professor in Electrical Engineering

Prof. Anura Wijayapala has been promoted to the post of Senior Professor in Electrical Engineering at the University of Moratuwa with effect from 14th February 2025.
Snr.Prof. Wijayapala graduated with a BSc (Engineering) (Hons) in Electrical Engineering from the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Moratuwa in 1991. He obtained his MSc from the same university in 2001. Before joining the Department of Electrical Engineering in 2005, he gained 15 years of experience in the private-sector electrical engineering industry.

Prof. Udayanga Hemapala promoted to Senior Professor in Electrical Engineering

The Department of Electrical Engineering warmly congratulates Snr. Prof. Udayanga Hemapala on his promotion to the post of Senior Professor in Electrical Engineering at the University of Moratuwa, with effect from 06th June 2025.
Snr. Prof. Hemapala graduated with a BSc (Engineering) (Hons) in Electrical Engineering with First Class Honours from the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Moratuwa in 2004. He obtained his PhD from the University of Genova, Italy, in 2009.

Prof. Lidula N. Widanagama Arachchige Delivers Pre-Conference Workshop on Conference Paper Writing

Prof. Lidula N. Widanagama Arachchige of the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Moratuwa, delivered an online workshop titled "Mastering the Art of Conference Paper Writing: From Concept to Publication" on 9 June 2026. The workshop was organized by the IET Sri Lanka Section as a pre-conference event for the IET Annual Technical Conference 2026.
The well-attended session brought together an enthusiastic audience of undergraduate and postgraduate engineering students, researchers, academics, and industry professionals.

Team GTricks Secures Runner-Up Position at SLIoT Challenge 2026

Undergraduates from the 23 Batch of the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Moratuwa, achieved outstanding success at the SLIoT Challenge 2026 by securing the Runner-Up position in the University Category as Team GTricks.
The team, consisting of Chanupa Hansaja, Dulsika Mendis, Senuja Dilmith, Madhuka Gihan, and Vindya Nilushika, presented PathFinder, an AIoT-based solution developed to support safety and communication in remote areas with limited or no network connectivity.

En’viera ’26: Annual Alumni Gathering of the Department of Electrical Engineering

En’viera ’26, the annual Alumni Night organized by the Electrical Engineering Society (EESoc) of the University of Moratuwa, was held on 13th March 2026 at Marino Beach Hotel, Colombo. Marking its second successful edition, the event brought together a larger gathering of alumni, academic staff, and students, reflecting the growing strength and spirit of the Electrical Engineering community.

Round Table Conference 2026 (RTC ’26)- “Driving Change – Powering Sri Lanka’s Clean Energy Transition”

The Electrical Engineering Society (EESoc) of the University of Moratuwa successfully hosted the Round Table Conference 2026 on 13th March 2026 at the Marino Beach Hotel, Colombo, marking the revival of its flagship national forum after 2018.
