Intelligent Service Robotics Group presenting at IEEE Region 10 HTC 2019

Sahan Priyanayana, a Mphil student at the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Moratuwa attended and presented at the IEEE Region 10 Humanitarian Technology Conference which was held from November 12 - 14, 2019 in The Depok City, Indonesia. Sahan is a member of the Intelligent Service Robotics Group led by Dr. Buddhika Jayasekara and Dr. Chandima Pathirana. He presented a paper titled “Evaluation of Navigation Commands Based on Conceptual Attributes to Enhance Human-Robot Interaction”.

Inauguration of MSc/PG Dip in EE/EI/IA 2019/20 Intake

Department of Electrical Engineering inaugurated the new 2019/20 intake of three postgraduate taught courses, MSc/PG Dip in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Installations and Industrial Automation on Friday, 29th November 2019 at 2pm at the Electrical Engineering seminar room. Emeritus Professor Samarajeewa Karunaratne attended the inaugural ceremony as the key note speaker.

A delegation from Shanghai University of Electric Power (SUEP) visits the Department of Electrical Engineering

A delegation from Shanghai University of Electric Power visited the Department of Electrical Engineering on 5th December 2019. The delegation included Ms. Zhang Chuan - University Vice President, Mr. Yang Xiu - Vice Director, Innovation Center of Energy and Electric Power, Mr. Bi Zhongqin - Vice Dean, Computer Science and Technology College, Ms. Xu Xinyan - Vice Director, Academic Affairs Office, Ms. Zhao Yan - Vice Dean, Electronics and Information Engineering College, Ms. Luo – Staff, International Exchange and Cooperation Office.

Dr (Mrs) Upuli Jayatunga attended IEEE ISGT (Innovative Smart Grid Technologies) EUROPE 2019 conference

Dr. Jayatunga attended the 9th IEEE ISGT conference which was held from 29th September to 3rd October 2019 at the University of POLITECHNICA, Bucharest, Romania with her joint PhD candidate Dilhani Chathurangi, to present the paper titled “Evaluation of Maximum Solar PV Penetration: Deterministic Approach for Overvoltage Curtailments”.

Chapa Sirithunge, a final year PhD student at the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Moratuwa attended and presented at the 14th International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS 2019) which was held from December 18-20, 2019 at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya. Chapa is a member of the Intelligent Service Robotics Group led by Dr. Buddhika Jayasekara and Dr. Chandima Pathirana.

Publication in IEEE RO-MAN 2019

A research paper titled “An Exploratory Study on Proxemics Preferences of Humans in Accordance with Attributes of Service Robots ’’ was presented at the 28th IEEE International Conference on Robot and Human Interactive Communication (RO-MAN) held from Oct 14 - 18 in New Delhi, India by Mrs. S. M. B. P. Samarakoon, who was a research assistant at the Center of Advanced Robotics, University of Moratuwa. Currently, she is a Ph.D. student at SUTD, Singapore.

Speech on “Artificial Intelligence for Modern Society” at National Science Foundation

Chapa Sirithunge, a final year PhD student at the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Moratuwa participated at the Knowledge Sharing Program organized by the National Science Foundation. The event was held on 24th September at the National Science Foundation Auditorium. She delivered a speech on “Artificial Intelligence for Modern Society” on behalf of the National Science Foundation. Students, staff members and general public interested in the field of AI witnessed the event.
