The Electrical Engineering Society (EESoc) of the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Moratuwa, held its 30th Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, 18th August 2026, at the Civil Auditorium of the University. The milestone gathering brought together academic staff and student members of the Society to review a year of activity and to elect the office bearers for the year ahead.
The evening opened with the traditional lighting of the oil lamp, followed by the welcome address delivered by the President of the Society, Dr. (Mrs.) R. Samarasinghe. Delivering the address by the Head of the Department, Prof. A. G. B. P. Jayasekara commended the Society on reaching its thirtieth annual meeting and encouraged members to continue building on the strong tradition of student leadership and professional engagement the Society has established within the Department.
Following the reading of the minutes of the 2025 Annual General Meeting by the Secretary, Gethara De Alwis, Vice President Samod Dharmaraja presented a review of the Society’s activities during 2025/26, outlining the programmes and events carried out over the course of the year. Vice President Shashindu Dilhara thereafter presented the budget report for 2025/26.
The election of the Executive Committee for 2026/27 was then conducted. Both the President, Dr. (Mrs.) R. Samarasinghe, and the Senior Treasurer, Eng. (Mrs.) K. A. T. Lasagani, were re-elected for a further term. Akindu Kalhan and Ruwan Charuka were elected as Vice Presidents, Dinithi Ravisha as Secretary, and Kavishka Lakshan as Junior Treasurer.
Tokens of appreciation were presented by Prof. W. D. A. S. Wijayapala to the former President and Treasurer of the Society in recognition of their service. Venura Shiromal was announced as the winner of the EESoc Logo Design Competition and received the award, after which an open discussion invited suggestions and proposals for the coming year. The newly elected Secretary, Dinithi Ravisha, delivered the vote of thanks.
The meeting concluded on a celebratory note with dance and musical items presented by students of Batch 23 and Batch 24, bringing a memorable thirtieth Annual General Meeting to a close.
