Dr. R M M Ruwanthika Resumed Duties After Study Leave

Dr. R M M Ruwanthika resumed duties in the post of Lecturer (Probationary) in the Department of Electrical Engineering with effect from 10th August 2022. The department would like to congratulate her for successful completion of PhD degree under the supervision of Prof. Seiichiro Katsura at the Department of System Design Engineering, Keio University, Japan. Her PhD research focused on excess force reduction in bilateral control for precise and safe operation. Dr R M M Ruwanthika received the B.Sc.

PROMOTION TO THE POST OF PROFESSOR

Dr. Lidula N.W. Arachchige has been promoted to the post of Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering (on merit) with effect from 17 July 2020. Prof. Lidula received the B.Sc. (Eng.) degree in Electrical Engineering as well as MSc in Engineering from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. She received the M.Eng. degree from the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand. Prof. Lidula received her PhD degree from the University of Manitoba, Canada.

Dr. Asanka Rodrigo submits the “Safety and Technical Management Plan of Electricity Licensees” to PUCSL

The final report of “Safety and Technical Management Plan of Electricity Licensees” to ascertain the Safe Electrical Practices in the Electricity Sector was handed over to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka by Dr. Asanka Rodrigo. Representatives from CEB and LECO were also present at this event.

Undergraduate Project Team Wins the Best Paper Award at IEEE World AI IoT Congress 2022, USA

The technical paper titled “Low-Cost Ensembling for Deep Neural Network-Based Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring (NILM)” based on the work of the undergraduate project team, B. Gowrienanthan, K. D. I. S. Ratnayake, and N. Kiruthihan, jointly supervised by Dr. V. Logeeshan and Prof. Sisil Kumarawadu in the Department of Electrical Engineering has won the Best Paper Award in the category of Neural Networks at the IEEE World Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things Congress held in Seatle, USA, 6-9 June, 2022.

The official welcome of the 2020 intake to the Department of Electrical Engineering was held on the 27th of May 2022 at the department seminar room. The event was graced by Prof. Udayanga Hemapala, Head-Department of Electrical Engineering, academic staff of the department, students of the 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 intakes, including executive committee members of the Electrical Engineering Society.

"Energizing Sri Lanka"- A panel discussion on the potential technical solutions for the energy crisis in Sri Lanka

In a short period of time, the term “Energy crisis” has become one of the most common terms within Sri Lanka due to frequent power cuts. To give this term a technical value IEEE Power and Energy Society(PES) Student Branch Chapter of the University of Moratuwa had joined hands with the Electrical Engineering Society(EESoc) of the University of Moratuwa by organizing a panel discussion named “Energizing Sri Lanka”. The theme for the event was “Solving Sri Lanka’s present energy dilemma through scientific research and development”.
