Electrical Engineering Department Welcomes the 2025 Intake

The Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Moratuwa officially welcomed its 2025 intake of 90 students on 18th August 2026 at the Department Seminar Room. The ceremony commenced with welcome remarks by Eng. Terashmila Lasagani, Semester 2 Coordinator, followed by an address by the Head of the Department, Prof. Buddhika Jayasekara, who highlighted the department’s vision, academic opportunities, and the responsibilities of students as they begin their journey in Electrical Engineering.
A special highlight of the event was the guest address by Eng. Jayavilal Meegoda, former Additional General Manager of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and former President of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL). Drawing from his extensive professional experience, Eng. Meegoda shared valuable insights and encouraged students to pursue excellence, innovation, and professional growth.
Academic staff members also addressed the gathering, offering guidance and encouragement to the new students. Akindu Kalhan introduced the Electrical Engineering Students’ Society (EESoc) and its role in enhancing student life through academic, professional, and extracurricular activities. Two students, representing Batch 2024 and Batch 2025, also shared their experiences and perspectives with the gathering.
The programme concluded with an engaging Q&A session and closing remarks, providing students with an opportunity to interact with the speakers and gain further insights into their academic and professional journey. Organized by EESoc, the event officially welcomed the new batch to the Electrical Engineering community, setting the stage for a journey of learning, inspiration, and academic excellence.
