Prof. Asanka Rodrigo Delivers Keynote Address at National Workshop on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

Prof. Asanka Rodrigo of the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Moratuwa, delivered the keynote address at the National Workshop on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) held on 16 July 2026 at the Sapphire Banquet Hall, BMICH, Colombo. The workshop was organized by the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA) in collaboration with the Solar Industries Association (SIA) of Sri Lanka.
The well-attended workshop brought together policymakers, regulators, engineers, academics, and industry professionals to discuss the latest developments in BESS technologies, safety, standards, and regulatory requirements.
In his keynote, Prof. Rodrigo emphasized that sharing knowledge on emerging technologies and evolving regulatory requirements is both a professional responsibility and a service to society. His presentation focused on BESS installation best practices and the latest BS 7671:2026 Orange Book requirements to support safe and reliable deployments.
The keynote was well received by participants and stimulated engaging discussions, reaffirming the Department of Electrical Engineering's commitment to advancing sustainable energy through knowledge sharing and professional leadership.
