EE Undergraduate Students Received the Best Paper Award at the IESL Young Members’ Technical Conference 2020

The paper submitted by the final year project group “Smart Device for DC Side Fault Detection and Prediction for Solar PV Systems” of Electrical Engineering Department won the “Eng. Chandrasena Award” for the Best Paper at the IESL Young Member Technical Conference 2020. The project group comprises with P.W. Dewapura, M.M.S.D. Ranasingha, B.D.S. Premanath and K.M. Ramanayake and the group is supervised by Dr. Asanka Rodrigo.

EE Undergraduate Students Received ENG. E. W. Karunaratna Award – 2019/2020 for Best Undergraduate Project in Electrical Engineering

The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) awards ‘ENG. E. W. Karunaratna Award’ for the best undergraduate project in Electrical Engineering across engineering faculties in Sri Lanka. This year, the project “Develop a Series Arc Fault Detector to Minimize the Risk of Domestic Electrical Fires”, done by a group of students in the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Moratuwa, received the award. The group members were, S. P. Somathilaka, N. T. Senarathna, H. E. Hewapathirana and W. M. K. S. Sumathipala. The project was supervised by Prof. J. R.

The best paper award at ICPEA 2019 conference held in Sydney, Australia

International Conference on Electrical Engineering Research and Practice (iCEERP-2019) organized by the Western Sydney University was held in Sydney, Australia from 24th to 28th November 2019. The best paper award was presented for the paper on “Technical and non-technical losses in single phase Energy Metering”. This paper was presented by Mr. Nilush Jayawardane, an MSc student in the Department of Electrical Engineering and was co-authored by Dr. Tilak Siyambalapitiya and Prof. Ranjit Perera.

DICB Meeting of the Department of Electrical Engineering

Department Industry Consultative Board (DICB) Meeting of the Department of Electrical Engineering was successfully held on Thursday, 27th February 2020 at the Engineering Faculty Board room, University of Moratuwa. The key matters for the discussion were industry relevance of the undergraduate program and the employability of Electrical Engineering graduates with the proposed changes to the curriculum. Very strong industry participation was noted and suggestions and feedback provided were very important in further developing the academic programs.

Intelligent Service Robotics Group presenting at ICIIS 2019

Chapa Sirithunge, a final year PhD student at the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Moratuwa attended and presented at the 14th International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS 2019) which was held from December 18-20, 2019 at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya. Chapa is a member of the Intelligent Service Robotics Group led by Dr. Buddhika Jayasekara and Dr. Chandima Pathirana.
