Electrical Engineering Society (EESoc) of the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Moratuwa initiated a G. C. E. Ordinary Level Mathematics Seminar series as “සිප්දරණ". The first seminar was successfully held on the 13th , 14th and 20th of February at Kelegama Kanishta Vidyalaya, Digannawa, Nikaweratiya.
Electrical Engineering Society (EESoc) of the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Moratuwa, took the lead in initiating a program to renovate the school laboratory of Kelegama Kanishta Vidyalaya in Nikaweratiya. That school is located in a very rural village with lack of many of the facilities. The renovation was successfully commenced on 21st December at the school premises with the presence of Dr. Thushara Rathnayaka, Dr.
Department of Electrical Engineering congratulates, Dr. Chapa Sirithunge, for successful completion of Doctor of Philosophy degree under the supervision of Prof. Buddhika Jayasekara. This is the Second PhD of the Intelligent Service Robotics Group (ISRG), Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Moratuwa.
The paper “Parameter Identification for Design of an Automated Load-Frequency Control (ALFC) Scheme for Sri Lankan Power System” authored by Eng. G. Kishokumar, Eng. E.N.K. Kudahawa and Dr. Asanka Rodrigo presented at Annual Session 2020 received the “ENG E.O PEREIRA WARD FOR BEST PAPER-2020” at the 114th Annual Session of Institute of Engineers, Sri Lanka on April 08th, 2021 at the BMICH.
Prof. WDAS Wijayapala has been promoted to the post of Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering (on merit) with effect from 14.02.2017. Prof. Wijayapala graduated from University of Moratuwa in 1991 specializing in Electrical Engineering. He has over 25 years of experience in the electrical engineering industry in Sri Lanka.
It is with great sorrow that we inform the demise of Emeritus Prof. H. Y. Ranjit Perera, former Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering.
The department warmly welcomes Pof. Udayanga Hemapala, new Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering. The department held a small ceremony to welcome the new HoD and to celebrate the dawn of the new year 2021.
The Council of the University of Moratuwa appointed Prof. Udayanga Hemapala to succeed Prof. Sisil Kumarawadu as the Head of the Department with effect from 1st January 2021. We congratulate him on the new appointment and wish him a very successful career in the department.
The official welcome of the 2019 intake to the Department of Electrical Engineering was held on the 14th of December 2020 as a virtual event. The event was graced by Prof. Sisil Kumarawadu, Head-Department of Electrical Engineering, academic staff of the department, students of the 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 intakes, including executive committee members of the Electrical Engineering Society.
The project titled “Develop a Series-arc Fault Detector to minimize the risk of domestic electrical fires” has been selected by the Department of Electrical Engineering as the best final year undergraduate project of 15 batch. The group members are Sachini Somathilaka, Nadun Senarathna, Hasinthaka Hewapathirana, Kaushalya Sumathipala, and the project is supervised by Prof. Udayanga Hemapala, Prof. Rohan Lucas and Dr. Narendra De Silva.
