Prof. K.T.M.U. Hemapala Appointed as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa

The Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Moratuwa, warmly congratulates Prof. K.T.M.U. Hemapala on his appointment as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa for a three-year term, with effect from 03 September 2026.
Prof. Hemapala is a distinguished alumnus of the Department of Electrical Engineering. He graduated with a BSc (Engineering) (Hons) in Electrical Engineering with First Class Honours from the University of Moratuwa in 2004 and obtained his PhD from the University of Genova, Italy, in 2009.
He has held several prominent leadership positions, including Secretary to the Ministry of Energy, Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board, and Director General of SLIATE. He has also made significant contributions to renewable energy, microgrids, and smart grid research. His research interests include smart grids, power system control, robotics and automation, industrial engineering, and renewable energy.
The Department of Electrical Engineering is proud to see one of its own distinguished graduates and academics take on this prestigious leadership role.
