The 43rd General Convocation of the University of Moratuwa (UoM) was held on 20th and 21st December 2022 with all its glory and pride at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in six sessions. The Chancellor of the University, Vidya Jyothi Professor Emeritus KKYW Perera presided the Convocation Ceremony which was attended by the graduands with their parents, distinguished invitees, as well as the academic and administrative staff of the University.
A total of 2329 competent graduands with remarkable potential to inspire and challenge the status quo were conferred degrees and diplomas in their respective fields such as engineering, architecture, information technology and business with around 25% of them at post graduate level including 15 PhDs. The Convocation ceremony also saw the pioneer batch of the Faculty of Business obtaining their first degrees.
- Architecture - 348 First Degrees/ 65 Postgraduate Degrees/Diploma (including 4 PhDs)
- Engineering - 1039 First Degrees/ 429 Postgraduate Degrees/Diploma (including 10 PhDs)
- Information Technology - 291First Degrees/ 37 Postgraduate Degrees/Diploma (including 1 PhDs)
- Business - 78 First Degrees/ 42 Postgraduate Degrees/Diploma
The University of Moratuwa graduates are in high demand among both the state sector and private sector employers. In fact, most of the study programmes have recorded almost zero unemployment within three months after graduation. Having earned internationally recognized accreditation status from a number of international accreditation bodies, the University of Moratuwa degree programmes are considered qualitatively equivalent to those offered by the world’s best universities.
The event was telecasted live in Peo TV (PeoTV Channel 120, Event TV Plus) and in the University website (www.uom.lk) for interested viewers to watch the proceedings of the Convocation.
