University of Moratuwa signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and entered into an agreement with Sri Lanka Telecom, the national telecommunication service provider to carry out collaborative research activities in the areas of electrical, electronics and telecommunication that have scientific, technological and economic significance to UOM, SLT and to the country as a whole.

Professor Subash Mukhopadhyay , Distinguished Lecturer, IEEE SC, School of Engineering Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia, visited the Department of Electrical Engineering and delivered a lecture for the students and staff on “WSN and IoT based Health, Home and Smart City” including micro sensors with IOT in health, home and smart city monitoring projects.

Dr. Gamini Mendis, Researcher at Perdue University in USA, delivered a talk on “Sustainable Electronics: a Global Challenge” at the Department of Electrical Engineering. 

Department Industry Consultative Board (DICB) Meeting of the Electrical Eng department was successfully held on 07th December 2018 at Ranuka City Hotel, Colombo 03. The key matters for the discussion were enhancing employability of Electrical Engineering undergraduates with proposed changes to the curriculum, new technology enhanced teaching laboratories and industry academia collaborative research activities. Very strong industry participation was noted and suggestions and feedbacks provided were very important in further developing the academic programs.

Dr. KTMU Hemapala has been promoted to the post of professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering (on merit) with effective from 06.07.2017.

The Eng. EW Karunarathna award for the best undergraduate project in Electrical Engineering was awarded to one of the 13 batch final year projects, “Modelling of Three-phase distribution transformers to investigate the effects of load-injected DC current on the operation of the transformer and the utility systems” supervised by Prof. JP Karunadasa.

Dr.Upuli Jayatunga participated the IEEE IAS (Industry Applications Society) Annual General Meeting, Award ceremony and the Conference which was held from 23rd to 27th September  2018 at the Oregon Convention Centre, Portland,

The Migara Ratnatunga Trust Awards for 2017/18 was received by Mr. PCD Dharmabandu and Mr. PS Thennakoon from the Department of Electrical Engineering.

Electrical Engineering Society of University of Moratuwa has contributed to the nation in resolving key issues and concerns in the field of electrical engineering through the annual Round Table Conference. This Annual Flagship Event provides a unique podium for the professionals in the industry to unfold remarks on a prevailing issue which has a connection with the power sector of Sri Lanka.

Electrical Engineering Society (EESoc) organized a guest lecture by Dr. Gamini Mendis, which was held successfully on 18^th October at the Final Year Lecturer room of the Department of Electrical Engineering. Dr. Gamini Mendis shared his experience under the topic, “Sustainable Electronics: Global Challenge”.
