Dr. R.M.T. Damayanthi was appointed as a Senior Lecturer (Grade I) with effect from 17th April, 2017 in the Department of Electrical Engineering by the Council of University of Moratuwa. Dr. R.M.T. Damayanthi had been serving in the Department as a senior lecturer (contract) since April 2016 prior to the new appointment. Dr. Damayanthi obtained her B.Sc. Degree in Electrical Engineering in 2003 from the University of Moratuwa. She was awarded a scholarship in 2004 to pursue doctoral studies at University of Tokyo, Japan and has completed her PhD 2009.

Professor Prinath Dias of the Department of Electrical Engineering recently attended the annual meeting of the Standing Advisory Group on Technical Assistance and Cooperation (SAGTAC) held at the headquarters of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria. SAGTAC is an advisory committee appointed by the Director General of the IAEA to advise him on the Technical Cooperation Programme of the IAEA. The SAGTAC of 2017 deliberated on Ensuring High Quality of the TC Programme and on Partnerships as Enablers of Technical Cooperation Programme for
Dr. Buddhika Jayasekara delivered a talk on “AI for intelligent systems and robots” at the 2nd National CXO Form organized by the Federation of IT Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS) the apex industry association for the ICT industry Sri Lanka which was held on 28th March 2017 at the Hilton Colombo Residence. It was focused on “Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning” for an audience including 250 CXOs of leading companies in Sri Lanka.
The Annual General Meeting of the Electrical Engineering Society (EESoc) of University of Moratuwa was held for the 21st time on 13th February 2016 at University premises. Academic staff lead by the Emeritus Professor J.R. Lucas patron of the society and the Head of the Department, Prof. N. Wickramarachchi together with the undergraduate students of the department of Electrical Engineering were among the gathering.
Prof Sisil Kumarawadu delivered a lecture titled "Intelligent Buildings" at the 16th Associate Professional Training (APT) program conducted by the Green Building Council of Sri Lanka (GBCSL), which is the Sri Lanka representative of World Green Building Council. This lecture highlighted the concepts and technologies used in modern energy-optimal smart bulidings.
