Completion of PhD by Viraj Muthugala

Department of Electrical Engineering congratulates, Dr. Viraj Muthugala, for successful completion of the PhD degree under the supervision of Dr. Buddhika Jayasekara. This is the first PhD of the intelligent service robotics group, Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Moratuwa. It is commendable that you have achieved more than typical international level of research outcome in Robotics field with an exceptional list of publications including flagship conferences like IEEE ICRA and IROS.

EESoc Guest Lecture - Recent Developments in Power Grid Transformations by Dr. Lasantha Meegahapola

Dr. Lasantha Meegahapola, currently a Senior Lecturer in the Electrical & Biomedical Engineering, School of Engineering, RMIT University, Melbourne, paid a courtesy to visit the Department recently. During the visit, he delivered a guest lecture on “Recent Developments in Power Grid Transformations" at the Electrical Engineering Seminar Room which was organized by the Electrical Engineering Society. The guest lecture was attended by the students and the academic staff.

Prof. H Y Ranjit Perera Participates IESES2018 in Hamilton, New Zealand

Mr. Punsara Colambage, Research student in the Dept. of Electrical Engineering, and Prof. H Y R Perera visited Hamilton, New Zealand to attend the IEEE International Conference on "Industrial Electronics for Sustainable Energy Systems (IESES) -2018" held from 31st January to 4thFebruary 2018. A joint paper on "Assessment of Cost of Unserved Energy for Sri Lankan Industrial Sector" was presented in the conference.

Dr. Asanka Rodrigo, as the Deputy Chair (Prescient-Elect) of the IEEE PES Sri Lanka Chapter, participated for the IEEE PES Asia Pacific (Region 10) Chapter Chairs’ meeting held in Bangalore, India from 7th November to 8th November 2017. This meeting was held alone with the 9th IEEE PES Asia-Pacific Power and Energy Engineering Conference 2017.

Sri Lanka Robotics Meetup 2017 is an IEEE event organized by Robotics and Automation  Society Sri Lanka Section Chapter in partnership with IEEE Sri Lanka Section. The focus of the forum is on status of robotics and automation applications and possible future directions. Dr. Buddhika Jayasekara served as a panelist in Sri Lanka Robotics Meetup 2017 which was held on 28th September 2017 at Virtusa Auditorium.

IEEE UoM SB Wins 2017 Darrel Chong Student Activity Award

IEEE Student Branch of University of Moratuwa has been awarded the 2017 Darrel Chong Student Activity Award by the IEEE Student Activities Committee. Prof. H Y R Perera Presents a Paper at 9th International Conference on Sustainability in Energy and Buildings held in Chania, Greece

Prof. H Y R Perera participated the 9th International Conference on sustainability in Energy and Buildings – SEB’17 – held in Chania, Greece from 5 – 7 July 2017. He presented the paper on “Reduction of Solar PV Payback period Using Optimally placed Reflectors”. The paper is co-authored by D T P Wijesuriya, K D S H Wickramathilaka, L S Wijesinghe, D M Vithana and H Y R Perera. The paper is accepted for publication in the Elsevier Journal Energy Procedia
