Prof. H Y R Perera Presents a Paper at 9th International Conference on Sustainability in Energy and Buildings held in Chania, Greece

Prof. H Y R Perera participated the 9th International Conference on sustainability in Energy and Buildings – SEB’17 – held in Chania, Greece from 5 – 7 July 2017. He presented the paper on “Reduction of Solar PV Payback period Using Optimally placed Reflectors”. The paper is co-authored by D T P Wijesuriya, K D S H Wickramathilaka, L S Wijesinghe, D M Vithana and H Y R Perera. The paper is accepted for publication in the Elsevier Journal Energy Procedia

Dr. DP Chandima, Dr. AGBP Jayasekara and Dr. KTMU Hemapala elevated to the grade of Senior Member of the IEEE

Dr. DP Chandima, Dr. AGBP Jayasekara and Dr. KTMU Hemapala elevated to the grade of Senior Member of the IEEE this year. Senior Member is the highest professional grade of the IEEE for which a member may apply. It requires experience, and reflects
professional accomplishment and maturity. Less than 10% of membership achieved this level of professional recognision.

The Department would like to congratulate Dr. DP Chandima, Dr. AGBP Jayasekara and Dr. KTMU Hemapala on joining the elite rank of IEEE Senior Members.

Intelligent Service Robotics Group Present Papers at IEEE Fuzz 2017

Three postgraduate students, Viraj Muthugala, Arjuna Srimal and Chapa Sirithunga of the Department of Electrical Engineering have presented three research papers at IEEE international conference on Fuzzy systems 2017 (IEEE Fuzz 2017) held July 9-12, Naples, Italy. They are working on development of MIRob (Moratuwa Intelligent Robot) , an intelligent service robot for domestic environments in the robotics and control laboratory of the department under the Supervision of Dr. Buddhika Jayasekara.

Mr. Pathum Sudasinghe Commences Studies at University of Wollongong, in a Joint PhD Programme Offered by UoW and UoM

Mr. Pathum Maduranga Sudasinghe, the first ever UoM student to enroll in a Joint PhD program commenced his work at the University of Wollongong on 29.8.2017 for the second part of his program. UoW offers him a full tuition waiver and a University Postgraduate Award for living expenses for a period of 18 months. Pathum commenced his PhD program at the University of Moratuwa in July 2017, and spent the first year at UoM.

Dr. Thushara Rathnayake Appointed as a Senior Lecturer

Dr. R.M.T. Damayanthi was appointed as a Senior Lecturer (Grade I) with effect from 17th April, 2017 in the Department of Electrical Engineering by the Council of University of Moratuwa. Dr. R.M.T. Damayanthi had been serving in the Department as a senior lecturer (contract) since April 2016 prior to the new appointment. Dr. Damayanthi obtained her B.Sc. Degree in Electrical Engineering in 2003 from the University of Moratuwa. She was awarded a scholarship in 2004 to pursue doctoral studies at University of Tokyo, Japan and has completed her PhD 2009.

Revealing the kind and giving nature of Electrical Engineering undergraduates and the Electrical Engineering Society, an extended phase of the annual charity program to the children at the School for the deaf, Ratmalana was held on 9th of March 2017.

Professor Prinath Dias attendeds the Annual Meeting of the Standing Advisory Group on Technical Assistance and Cooperation

Professor Prinath Dias of the Department of Electrical Engineering recently attended the annual meeting of the Standing Advisory Group on Technical Assistance and Cooperation (SAGTAC) held at the headquarters of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria.  SAGTAC is an advisory committee appointed by the Director General of the IAEA to advise him on the Technical Cooperation Programme of the IAEA.  The SAGTAC of 2017 deliberated on Ensuring High Quality of the TC Programme and on Partnerships as Enablers of Technical Cooperation Programme for
