The Department of Earth Resources Engineering is recruiting temporary instructors from among the graduates of Intake 2021 of the same department.

Effective 28 March 2025, Dr. S. P. Chaminda has been promoted to Professor in Mining and Minerals Engineering. He completed his B.Sc. Eng. (Hons) degree in the same department at the University of Moratuwa, and later earned his Ph.D. from Tohoku University, Japan. Since joining the Department of Earth Resources Engineering at the University of Moratuwa, his research has focused on mining and remote sensing.

On 26 February 2026, we bid farewell to Eng. AVP Vijitha, who retires from the Department of Earth Resources Engineering, University of Moratuwa after a remarkable career of teaching, mentoring, and guiding countless students.

As he steps into this new chapter, we thank him sincerely for his dedicated service and wish him joy, health, and endless fulfillment.

On 30 October 2025, the Department of Earth Resources Engineering at the University of Moratuwa officially launched its inaugural postgraduate programmes in Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems:

The Department of Earth Resource Engineering is hiring four (04) temporary instructors from the Intake 2020.

The application window is now open for the Master of Science in Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems [MSc (RS & GIS)], Master of Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems [MRS & GIS], and Postgraduate Diploma in Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems [PGDip (RS & GIS)] for the 2025/2026 intake.

We extend our congratulations to Dr. L.P.S. Rohitha on his appointment as Head of the Department, effective 26 June 2025. We welcome his leadership as he begins this new chapter.
