On 2nd July 2026, third-year undergraduate students of the Department of Transport Management & Logistics Engineering (TMLE), University of Moratuwa, participated in an educational field visit to Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport and Hambantota International Port (HIP).
The visit provided students with valuable exposure to the practical operations and industry practices within the air transport and maritime sectors. At Hambantota International Port, the students participated in an informative session covering the port’s operations, services, and contribution to the logistics and maritime industry. The session provided an opportunity for students to gain insights into the practical aspects of port management and operations.
The students also visited Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport, where they were introduced to the processes involved in air cargo handling and airport operations. The visit provided practical knowledge on cargo handling procedures and the various activities involved in facilitating air freight operations.
The educational visit enabled students to connect their academic knowledge with real-world industry practices, while gaining a broader understanding of the operational aspects of ports, airports, cargo handling, and transportation logistics.
