dtmle Transport and logistics are concerned with the flow of people, goods, and information through a value chain from materials acquisition at production to its final consumption and back. In a dynamic world economy, integrated logistics and transport solutions are identified as key success factors in achieving a competitive edge. Identifying the national need for qualified industry professionals to gear the Sri Lankan economy, the government requested the University of Moratuwa, as the leading post-secondary institute in the country, well known for its quality in world-class teaching and research, to venture into educating the youth in the field of Transport and Logistics.

Shouldering the responsibility of catering to the national need, The Department of Transport and Logistics Management was established in August 2005, attended by the Faculty of Engineering, University of Moratuwa, to offer the Honours Degree of Bachelor of Science in Transport and Logistics Management – BSc Hons (T&LM). To fulfil the industry requirements, from 2021 the department offers Bachelor of the Science of Engineering Honours in Transport Management & Logistics Engineering – BSc Eng Hons (Transport Management & Logistics Engineering). The department's name was changed to Department of Transport Management and Logistics Engineering from 2022 onwards.

The Department of Transport Management & Logistics Engineering dtlm offers a lively and enthusiastic environment for teaching and learning of the state of the art in Transport Management & Logistics Engineering in both its theory and practice. The department is committed to achieving excellence through its full-time academic programs, industrial and academic research, consultancy services to the industry, short-term courses, workshops, seminars and conferences, etc., and maintaining close collaborations with industry and relevant professional bodies.

The department comprises of a dynamic staff team who is committed in developing and delivering the program to international standards. The program is supported by a vibrant Department- Industry Consultative Board (DICB) which meets once a year. The degree program is fully accredited by The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT). The CILT accreditation has recognized the BSc. degree program in Transport & Logistics Management as one of the world's top 50 Degree Programs in this field and the first in the South Asian region.

dtlmThere is an increasing demand for professionally qualified managers who can think strategically and solve problems holistically. To fulfil that demand, the department offers a MBA / Postgraduate Diploma in Supply Chain Management which is blended with concepts and applications from the different areas of Logistics and Supply Chain. In addition, modules such as Economics, Finance, Quantitative Analysis, Marketing, Human Resource Management and Information Systems will help MBA graduates to think laterally.
