The University of Moratuwa has signed a grant agreement with the University of Stavanger in Norway and Institut Teknologi Bandung in Indonesia for the project titled “𝐄𝐧𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬: 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧” valued at 9.9 million Norwegian Kroner (approximately 217 million LKR). This project is funded by the Norwegian Programme for Capacity Development in Higher Education and Research for Development (NORHED II). The Department of Transport & Logistics Management played a prime role in the application for this grant with Senior Lecturers Dr. Niles Perera and Dr. Amila Thibbotuwawa leading the way with the experienced support of Dr. Ajith Pasqual (Senior Lecturer, Department of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering) and Dr. Ranil Sugathadasa (Senior Lecturer, Department of Transport & Logistics Management).

Establishing a Supply Chain Analytics and Innovation Laboratory at the Department of Transport & Logistics Management is one of the main goals of this grant. The grant also includes two PhD scholarships to build socially sustainable supply chains in Sri Lanka. A MoU to this effect was also signed with a Cotutelle to be signed in the future. In addition, multi-party technology and knowledge transfer initiatives, especially relating to Industry 4.0 applications to support local supply chains are part of the project. The grant also aims to develop a new postgraduate degree program to support knowledge acquisition of local professionals as well as an increased focus on practice-driven research among many other planned activities. The Department of TLM is thrilled about the acquisition of this enormous three-year grant and congratulates all involved in this massive milestone.
