Mercedes-Benz fashion week (MBFW) is a platform that highlights Sri Lankan talents to the global fashion market. MBFWSL 21 aimed to take Sri Lanka's new design propositions to the view of the international fashion industry. Jinendra Lakmini Hewagama, a graduate designer who currently work as an instructor of Fashion Design and Product Development (FDPD), Department of Textile and Apparel Engineering showcased her talent in MBFWSL 21 ramp under the concept of 'Reincarnation' at the fashion segment of ‘New Local’. She has precisely crafted a culturally rich sustainable Handloom collection harmonized with batik and hand embroidery to represent the Sri Lankan tradition and the local artisanal skills to the contemporary fashion arena. As a department, we are proud of her and wish her success in her future endeavors. The event was held on 10th December 2021 at the Colombo innovation tower.
