Rusin Thathsara, a third-year student in the Facility Management degree program at the Department of Building Economics at the University of Moratuwa, was recently awarded the prestigious "Youth Astronomical Authorship Honorable Award." This recognition was bestowed upon him by the Royal Foundation, as gazetted by the Government of Sri Lanka, in honor of his significant contributions as a youth to Sri Lanka. These contributions include authoring the first book on space construction in South Asia, writing over a hundred articles in astronomical and scientific journals (he also initiated the first newspaper article series in Sri Lanka about Facilities Management), creating the concept for Sri Lanka’s first virtual space city, “VIMANA,” and authoring Sri Lanka's first Hindu astronomy book, “Brahmaand Nirmatha.” He mastered astronomy under the guidance of renowned astronomer Mr. Anura C. Perera. So far, Rusin has written 14 books, 12 of which are related to astronomy. He entered the field of authorship with his world record-breaking book, "Oxygen from Kamal Sir." This marks the first time a university student has received this distinguished honorary award, which has garnered significant coverage on TV programs and in newspapers.
