Level 4 quantity surveying undergraduates of the Department of Building Economics participated in an educational site visit on the 7th and 8th of April 2025, exploring both building and infrastructure projects. The two-day excursion included visits to the Kandy Multimodal Transport Terminal Project, Kothmale Dam and Powerplant, and Araliya Hotel, Nuwaraeliya, offering insights into different construction sectors.
At the Kandy Multimodal Transport Terminal, students observed the integration of various transportation modes within a single facility. They gained understanding of urban planning challenges and innovative solutions in modern transit hub development. The Kothmale Dam and Powerplant visit enhanced students' knowledge of hydropower generation and dam construction. They examined engineering principles behind water retention structures and energy conversion processes, supplementing their theoretical understanding with practical observations. At Araliya Hotel, Nuwaraeliya, students explored commercial hospitality construction, studying specialized requirements for hotel facilities, including architectural considerations and the integration of guest amenities with operational spaces.
Throughout the visit, students engaged with industry professionals, gaining insights into project planning, execution challenges, quantity surveying practice and construction management approaches across different construction types.
