The Department of Building Economics organized two insightful guest lectures for Level 4 Quantity Surveying undergraduates, focusing on procurement practices in the Middle East—one of the most popular employment destinations for Sri Lankan QS graduates.
The first session, held on the 6th of June 2025, was delivered by Ch. QS Prasanna Pushpajith, Commercial Director at ASTAD Project Management LLC, Doha, Qatar. His lecture on “Procurement in Construction and Practice in the Middle East Region” offered a detailed overview of procurement frameworks and real-world challenges in the region’s construction sector.
The second lecture, conducted on the 14th of June 2025, featured Ch. QS Saraka Marasinghe, Quantity Surveyor at Atkins Realis (Faithful+Gould Saudi Arabian Pvt. Ltd). His presentation on “The Strategic Significance of Procurement in the Middle East” highlighted the critical role procurement plays in ensuring project success within the regional context and went on to provide a foundational understanding of the different procurement paths followed in the construction industry.
Both speakers drew from their extensive professional experience, offering practical insights and valuable career advice to students. The sessions proved especially beneficial for final-year students preparing to enter the global job market, reinforcing the Department’s commitment to industry-relevant education and professional readiness.
