Hasareli Sirimewan, a Level 1 Quantity Surveying undergraduate from the Department of Building Economics, proudly brought home the championship title in the Fresher’s Women Chess Tournament 2025, held on 14th of May 2025 at the University of Moratuwa.
Organized by the Department of Physical Education, the tournament aimed to foster strategic thinking, concentration, and friendly competition among the new entrants to the university. Hasareli showcased exceptional skill and composure throughout the event, outplaying a strong field of fellow freshers from across faculties. Her victory reflects not only her personal dedication to the game but also the growing interest in intellectual sports within the University of Moratuwa community.
Representing the Faculty of Architecture, a seasoned player with a FIDE rating of 1650, Hasareli’s success highlights the diverse talents of the undergraduates from the University of Moratuwa beyond the classroom.
