A guest lecture on “The Nature of the Construction Industry” was held on the 17th of June 2025 at the Department Auditorium for Level 1 Quantity Surveying undergraduates of the Department of Building Economics. The session was conducted by Ch.QS Hemantha Aponso, an experienced professional in the field of quantity surveying. The lecture provided students with a comprehensive overview of how the construction industry operates, highlighting key stakeholders, project lifecycles, and the interrelated roles within the sector. Particular emphasis was placed on the vital role of the quantity surveyor in ensuring cost efficiency, contract administration, and project success. For many first-year students, the session served as an eye-opener, bridging theoretical knowledge with practical industry realities. It marked an important step in their journey toward becoming professional quantity surveyors.
