Guest Lecture Inspires Future Quantity Surveyors

A guest lecture titled “Who is a Quantity Surveyor?” was conducted for Level I Quantity Surveying undergraduates of the Department of Building Economics on 20th March 2026, providing students with valuable insights into the professional role, responsibilities, and career pathways of a Quantity Surveyor. The session was delivered by Ch. QS Tissa Edirisinghe. Drawing from his extensive experience as an industry practitioner, he introduced students to the diverse functions of Quantity Surveyors in the construction industry, including cost management, contract administration, procurement, financial control, and project advisory services. The lecture was particularly beneficial for the first-year students, as it helped them gain a clearer understanding of the significance of the Quantity Surveying profession and its contribution to successful project delivery. The session created an engaging learning experience and encouraged students to reflect on their chosen field of study with greater awareness and motivation.
