In an enriching endeavor to bridge theory with real-world application, final-year undergraduates of the Department of Building Economics embarked on a field visit to Randenigala Dam, Minipe Anicut, and Kandalama Resort on September 24th and 25th, 2023.
The field visit began with Randenigala Dam, a hydroelectric embankment dam, where students witnessed firsthand the engineering complexities involved in such vital infrastructure. Next was Minipe Anicut, an ancient dam revered as an engineering marvel, offering students a glimpse into the timeless principles of hydraulic engineering.
The visit culminated at Kandalama Resort, a renowned sustainable construction project. Students delved into the innovative practices employed, aligning theoretical knowledge with the practicalities of sustainable development—an area of paramount importance for Quantity Surveying and Facilities Management students.
These sites not only provided invaluable insights but also underscored the department's commitment to nurturing well-rounded professionals. The Department of Building Economics remains dedicated to cultivating a holistic educational experience, preparing students to excel in the fields of Quantity Surveying and Facilities Management.
