The Department of Building Economics in collaboration of FM graduates organized a symposium to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the B.Sc. (Hons) in Facilities Management Degree Programme 25th November 2016.
The Degree Programme was commenced by the Department of Building Economics, University of Moratuwa in the year 2006 under the patronage of the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka. This is the only FM higher education programme recognised internationally with the accreditation by the Royal Institution Chartered Surveyors (RICS), UK, in the whole Asia Pacific Region. The Department has already produced six batches of FM graduates to the industry who are serving in well established companies in Sri Lanka as well as in foreign countries.
In celebration of the successful endearment of its 10th year, “FM Symposium 2016: Expanding Horizons” was organized by the Department of Building Economics with the support of the FM graduates, on 25th November 2016. The event took place from 5.00 p.m. onwards at OZO- Colombo.
Key Note Speech on “Commissioning and Operation of Smart Buildings” was delivered by the Managing Director, Eutech Group, Singapore, Dr. Hari Gunasingham. Vice Chancellor, University of Moratuwa, Prof. Ananda Jayawardena was the Chief Guest of the evening while Prof. Chitra Weddikkara graced the event as the Guest of Honour. Deputy Vice Chancellor, University of Moratuwa, Prof. Rahula Attalage, the Dean, Faculty of Architecture, University of Moratuwa, Prof. Lalith De Silva, President, Institute of Facilities Management Sri Lanka, Mr. Elmo Fernando, invitees from different industrial sectors, FM graduates, academic and non-academic staff of the Department of Building Economics dignified the occasion as well.
