The Department of Building Economics successfully held its Inauguration and Orientation Programme for the 2025 intake from 11th to 15th March 2025, warmly welcoming a new cohort of students to the Quantity Surveying degree program.
The programme commenced with a formal inauguration ceremony, marking the beginning of an exciting academic journey for the incoming students. This ceremony served not only as a welcome but also as an introduction to the department’s academic culture, values, and expectations. Following the inauguration ceremony, a series of informative sessions were conducted by the academic staff of the department, providing students with insights into university procedures, academic life, and available support systems. These sessions aimed to ease the transition from school to university and to empower students to make the most of the opportunities ahead.
To further enhance student engagement and build a sense of community, various interactive activities and site visits were organized as part of the Inauguration and Orientation Programme. These experiences allowed the new students to bond with their batchmates while gaining early exposure to the university environment. The student also got an opportunity to interact with university award winners and batch rankers, as well as representatives from the Quantity Surveying Alumni Association and the Institute of Quantity Surveyors Sri Lanka (IQSSL). These interactions inspired and motivated the new intake by showcasing potential career pathways and professional development opportunities.
The Department of Building Economics remains committed to creating a supportive and engaging environment for its students, and this successful orientation programme laid a strong foundation for the academic and professional journey of the 2025 intake.
