Building Economics Staff Recognized for Research Excellence at the World Construction Symposium 2025

The Department of Building Economics celebrates the noteworthy achievements of its academic staff at the World Construction Symposium (WCS) 2025, where their research contributions received prestigious recognition on an international stage.
Professor Udayangani Kulatunga was honoured with the Ceylon Institute of Builders (CIOB) Best Paper Award for her research titled “Serious games for disaster risk reduction: Enhancing community preparedness for sustainable futures”, co-authored with H. Tariq. The study highlights the innovative application of serious games in strengthening disaster preparedness, paving the way for more resilient and sustainable communities. In addition, Dr. Himal Suranga Jayasena and Dr. D.N.L.S. Uduwage, Senior Lecturers of the Department, together with S. Piranavan, Temporary Lecturer, received the Highly Commended Paper Award from the Built Environment Project and Asset Management (BEPAM) Journal, published by Emerald Group Publishing. Their paper, “Exploring perceptual mapping technique as an innovative method of representing construction cost information”, was recognized for its originality and potential to transform how construction cost data is visualized and communicated.
These accolades highlight the Department’s commitment to advancing research in the built environment and reflects the dedication and expertise of its staff in addressing contemporary challenges in construction management and beyond.
