On August 27, 2023, the Department of Building Economics commemorated a significant milestone - its 40th anniversary. Established in 1983 under the visionary leadership of Prof. H.P.S. Caldera, the department's humble beginnings with 18 students have blossomed into a thriving community of 152 students today.
In 2023, the department celebrated its 37th year of offering the Quantity Surveying (QS) degree program, a testament to its enduring commitment to educating future industry leaders. Since its inception, the department has proudly produced approximately 1800 QS graduates and 600 Facility Management (FM) graduates. Many of these accomplished alumni now hold influential positions both in academia and industry, underscoring the department's lasting impact.
The anniversary event was a grand affair, attended by enthusiastic alumni. The festivities included a formal function and a heartwarming get-together for alumni and their families. Food stalls and fun games added to the jubilant atmosphere, making it a memorable celebration of 40 years of excellence in education and the remarkable achievements of its graduates.
