The 28th Sarasavi Gee Sisila: An Evening of Music and Entertainment

“Sarasavi Gee Sisila,” the annual musical extravaganza organized by the Building Economics Student’s Society (BESS) of the Department of Building Economics, was successfully held on 24 January 2026 at the Sumanadasa Courtyard. Now in its 28th year, the event has become one of the most anticipated highlights in the department’s annual calendar, bringing together students, staff, alumni, and music enthusiasts for an evening of music and entertainment. This year’s event featured an exceptional lineup of seven renowned Sri Lankan musicians, offering the audience a memorable musical experience. The performers included T. M. Jayaratne, Edward Jayakodi, Deepika Priyadarshani, Shirley Waijayantha, Chandraleka Perera, Rookantha Gunathilaka, and Dhanith Sri, representing a blend of classic and contemporary Sri Lankan music. Their performances captivated the audience and created a vibrant and nostalgic atmosphere throughout the evening. In addition to the performances by the guest artists, the event also highlighted the creative and artistic talents of the undergraduates. The students played an active role in designing and constructing visually striking stage setups and decorations. Their efforts contributed significantly to the warm and festive ambience of the evening. Several students also participated in supportive singing segments, performing alongside the featured artists. Beyond entertainment, the musical extravaganza also serves a meaningful purpose. The funds generated through the event are allocated toward student welfare initiatives within the Department of Building Economics. These contributions help support various student-focused activities and facilities, reinforcing the department’s commitment to enhancing the overall academic and social experience of its undergraduates. The event received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the audience, who appreciated both the high-quality performances and the professionalism demonstrated by the organizing committee.
