The University of Moratuwa (UOM) is widely regarded as one of Sri Lanka's best universities. There have been tremendous advancements in all sectors of activity during its 45-year history, securing an excellent brand reputation as a premier of higher education in Sri Lanka. The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Moratuwa, which was established in February 2020, is the most recent addition to the University of Moratuwa, bringing the total number of faculties to six.
More than 15 years ago, the UOM embarked on Biomedical Engineering research, collaborating with medical faculties from adjacent universities. In addition, the UOM launched the first Biomedical Engineering undergraduate program in Sri Lankan state universities. As a differentiating feature, UoM's infra structure and the technological expertise could help encourage the growth of the medical and related professions by providing a high-quality platform for teaching, research, and allied health sciences.
